Vibrant original oil on canvas painting. 2014-2015.
Dimensions; 3.66m x 2.1m
"This painting shows how a port functions as a crossing point where international commerce, labour, culture and migration shape relations between nations and cultures ... many of the labourers will be laid off, a situation now causing devastation in Casablanca...At the horizon houses are being torn down for new cargo terminals, causing encampments of the homeless to proliferate, and a man holds a board protesting at this: no compensation is to hand ... This painting asks the viewer: is this dangerous, low paid occupation better than nothing, and why is no alternative found for those laid off, when such vast sums are spent on, and generated by mechanisation", Josh Hollingshead.
