Tim Designs

Karen is the creative force behind Tim Designs Jewellery. It is said that most people have five careers in their lives, being a jeweller is Karen's fifth.

In the past she has run a licensed restaurant, been a shorthand- typist, a nurse, a midwife and a university lecturer. Karen enjoyed these careers but being a jeweller is that 'long-felt want' often talked about.

Karen's jewellery training was carried out part-time at the Birmingham School of Jewellery whilst she was still a lecturer. She now works full-time in her jewellery studio at home creating her silver, gold and coloured gem pieces that are full of strong contrasts.

The Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire inspires the jewellery; the forest is on a high plateau and was a wild, isolated and dangerous place. The wood in the forest is managed as an industry, there is farming and from ancient times coal, tin and gold were mined. It is the contrasts between the different industries, the wealth/poverty, the modern forest and the ruins of past industries that influence Karen's jewellery.
