The Haddenham Steam Rally & Heavy Horse Show
Every year, the air around our second gallery site at College Farm, Haddenham fills with the nostalgic chuff of steam engines and the lively atmosphere of a classic country fair. The Haddenham Steam Rally & Heavy Horse Show is one of the region’s most cherished annual events, taking place right on our doorstep and celebrating the very best of British heritage, craftsmanship, and community spirit.
For more than five decades, this beloved rally has been a highlight of the local calendar. Entirely volunteer-run, it raises funds for numerous local charities and exemplifies the sense of togetherness that defines the Cambridgeshire countryside.
The rally is a true celebration of traditional steam and country life, offering something for everyone. Visitors can explore over 800 exhibits, including magnificent steam engines, vintage cars, stationary engines, classic tractors, and lorries — each showcasing a piece of engineering history.
The fairground features Rule’s steam-driven Gallopers, considered among the finest in the country, as well as the thrilling Fox family “Wall of Death.” Another major attraction is the Heavy Horse Show, which draws impressive competitors from across the country and remains a highlight of the weekend.
Amidst this celebration of heritage and engineering, gallery owner Jeremy Waller’s sculptures have also been exhibited, creating a fascinating dialogue between industrial history and contemporary art. His works add a unique creative dimension to the event, connecting past and present through form and material.
The Haddenham Steam Rally continues to be a vibrant celebration of community, creativity, and tradition — a living reminder of the region’s enduring connection to its agricultural and industrial roots.
