Tanya Goddard

After graduating as an art teacher from Moscow State university, Tanya was employed as a stage and costume designer for Moscow theatres prior to a role for the Russian Ministry of Culture. Here she sourced works of art throughout Russian and organised exhibitions in major Russian cities.

Tanya then relocated to New York to work as an antique painting restorer before focusing her talents on sculpting. Her first notable achievement was when her US patron invited her to exhibit at an international sculpture exhibition in New York where she won a ‘Gold Award’. This success launched her career in Europe having three TV programs made about her life and work (in Russia, Cyprus and the UK) and exhibitions in Luxembourg, Rotterdam, Duisburg, Hanover and Amsterdam. Her other achievements include:

  • A solo exhibition within the British Ambassador’s Moscow residence
  • To be the only non musical artist invited by the Russian Ministry of Culture to participate in a “presentation of Russian Art” for members of the diplomatic corps at the Russian Ambassador’s Paris residence.
  • To exhibit at the annual international ceramics symposium in Bejing.

Using a Japanese air dried clay and a variety of other media Tanya is inspired by theatrical and fantasy characters in “Alice in Wonderland”  figures being her favourites. Tanya now lives in Norwich and in addition to constantly seeking to create new sculpting “themes”, she also gives sculpting workshops to A Level art students at local high schools.
