Stuart Akroyd
Stuart Akroyd is a nationally and internationally recognised glassmaker, renowned for his unique and vibrant free-blown glass pieces. Stuart began glassmaking during his degree in 3D Design at Sunderland University. He then spent a few years making glass at Lakeland Crystal before setting up his own Stuart Akroyd Glass Designs. This move gave him creative freedom and allowed him to develop his innovative designs which champion asymmetry, vibrancy and free-flowing forms.
Stuart’s method consists of a development of traditional Venetian techniques. He finds inspiration from the world around him, then sketches out initial design ideas. Stuart then experiments with hot glass and making three dimensional forms, pushing and refining these prototypes until he creates the final piece.
