Philip Wood | English Earthenware
Share
The distinctive earthenware made by Philip Wood is characterized by its pale washed colour and detailed figurative relief. His pots are similar to those made by traditional English country potteries but Philip adds playful, press-moulded sprigs depicting animals, fish, birds, leaves and ornaments, and a loose slip wash. His work encompasses so much inherited memory and instinct that it proves to be deeply and lastingly attractive. The very personal, considered and quiet approach of Philip's pottery allows the viewer free reign to consider what each image, shape and combination of textures means to them.
