This past weekend, the air around our second gallery site at College Farm, Haddenham was filled with the nostalgic chuff of steam engines and the lively buzz of a classic country fair. We were thrilled to be the backdrop for the magnificent 50th Haddenham Steam Rally & Heavy Horse Show, which was in full swing right on our doorstep!
For five decades, this beloved event has been a highlight of the local calendar, and it was a joy to see it return for its golden anniversary. As a completely volunteer-run organisation that raises money for many local charities, the rally embodies the community spirit we cherish here in Cambridgeshire.
The rally is a true traditional steam and country fair, offering something for everyone. Whether you are an avid steam enthusiast or simply looking for a wonderful day out with the family, the event did not disappoint. Visitors explored over 800 incredible exhibits, from majestic steam engines and vintage cars to stationary engines, classic tractors, and lorries.
The fun extended to the old tyme fair, featuring Rule's steam-driven Gallopers (one of the finest sets in the country) and the thrilling Fox family "Wall of Death." A particular highlight was the 36th-anniversary Heavy Horse Show on Sunday, which saw magnificent competitors from across the country.
We were especially proud that amidst this celebration of heritage and engineering, gallery owner Jeremy Waller's striking sculptures were on display for all to enjoy. His pieces, set against the dramatic backdrop of steam and horsepower, created a fascinating dialogue between industrial history and contemporary art.
It was a pleasure to welcome so many of you to the area and to share in this fantastic community event. The success of the rally reminds us of the vibrant, creative, and historic character of the region we are proud to call home.
