Oil on medium weave canvas with some fluorescent acrylic by Josh Hollingshead. 2004.

'This painting shows the residents of a care home who have been ushered into a spiritualist church...The physically and mentally afflicted fill the pews and a preacher hammers home his message, with a TV airing anti-catholic footage from an American channel, the light emerging from the screen shows a foolish man waving a Vatican flag as a woman prays. Beside this is a discarded pack of Seroxat, an antidepressant which resulted in many suicides- analogous to spiritualism itself, with its forlorn promises of communication with the dead, and cure from illness. Sculptures line the roof of the church, eagles with outstretched wings, and a forced baptism representing the opportunistic, predatory nature of this commercialised strand of Christianity', Josh Hollingshead
