Oil over acrylic on smooth canvas by Josh Hollingshead.
Dimensions: 1.76m x 1.53m.
Set in a Madagascan village, this painting portrays a man returning from losing his job in the city. His brother, who financed this sojourn, rages at the loss after all of his hard work with no reward; others are pleased to see the man again. Social dynamics within an isolated setting are the focus of this scene, and through out there are relationships and details of life within this village.
Hollingshead saw many 'Prodigal Sons' in 2009 - men who had to pay the costs of political decisions out of their control, when after a coup in Antananarivo, sanctions led to closures and businesses stopped trading.
