Sonia Villiers

Sonia is a local artist who depicts familiar scenes of Cambridge and local areas such as Ely, Saffron Walden and surrounding villages in a fluid and funky, colourful and wonky way. She paints using acrylic, alkyd, watercolour and collage on canvas. Sonia says that her style evolved from looking at paintings ancient and modern and trying to figure out what made a painting special or exciting. She states "I am always trying to paint in a looser way without losing the detail, and I always use colour to create light and shade, never grey or black".

The gallery also stocks cards, prints and scarves featuring some of Sonia's best-loved paintings. Sonia teaches in Cambridge and has exhibited her work in many locations in East Anglia and has taken part in Cambridge Open Studios for the past 15 years. Primavera currently has around 20 different limited edition prints from Sonia.
